What this research studies

You would be invited to learn through a Community Engagement Academy that trains local ambassadors to share cancer information and support research. The program aims to train about 600 community members and deliver educational multimedia to roughly 5,000 people, using technology and local events. It partners with researchers working on prostate, pancreatic, and lung cancer to host educational activities and promote clinical trial and biospecimen participation. Activities include workshops, outreach at churches and community sites, and serving on advisory committees to help guide research priorities.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Adults (21+) in the Florida and California catchment areas, including cancer survivors, community leaders, and anyone who wants to learn about cancer prevention and support research.

Not a fit: People living outside the program's Florida and California catchment areas, minors, or those seeking direct clinical treatment rather than education and outreach are unlikely to benefit directly.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could raise awareness, improve early detection, increase participation in clinical trials and biospecimen donation, and help communities access cancer prevention information.

How similar studies have performed: Similar community outreach and education programs have increased screening and research awareness, and this builds on prior CaRE2 community-engagement work.
