What this research studies

If I join this network I would be seen at one of five research sites in South Africa, Zambia, or Uganda that run clinical studies for people at risk for or living with HIV and TB. The team will offer vaccines, passive antibody infusions, or experimental HIV/TB treatments and then follow participants with regular visits, blood tests, and health checks. The unit coordinates studies across sites, works with international networks, and partners with local communities to enroll and support participants. Participation could include injections or infusions, receiving study medications, and attending scheduled clinic and safety monitoring visits.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Adults who live in or can travel to the participating sites in South Africa, Zambia, or Uganda and who meet the trial-specific health and eligibility requirements are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who live outside the study region, are younger than the studies allow, or who do not meet medical eligibility or cannot attend follow-up visits are unlikely to be eligible or benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: Success could bring new vaccines, antibody options, or improved HIV and TB treatments that prevent more infections and improve care in Southern and East Africa.

How similar studies have performed: Past HIV vaccine and antibody studies have shown some promising signals and important lessons but no widely effective HIV vaccine yet exists, while HIV and TB drug trials have improved treatments over time.
