What this research studies

At Aurora Health, community hospitals and clinics will open a variety of National Cancer Institute (NCI) clinical trials for adult and pediatric patients. The program will enroll patients into both treatment and cancer care delivery studies and expand the range of trials offered locally. Staff across Advocate Health sites will coordinate care, help patients understand options and consent, and use shared resources to run the studies. The goal is to involve more patients in research that could lead to better outcomes.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Adults and children with cancer who receive care at Aurora/Advocate Health sites in Wisconsin and Illinois and who meet eligibility for an open NCI-sponsored trial.

Not a fit: Patients whose cancer type or clinical profile does not match any open trial or who cannot travel to participating Aurora sites may not directly benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this will give more patients local access to NCI clinical trials, potential new treatments, and improvements in how cancer care is delivered.

How similar studies have performed: Other NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) sites have successfully increased patient access and enrollment to clinical trials, so this community-centered approach is established.
